Ismaël is a tax lawyer and tax expert. In 1978 he started his career with the Suriname Police. In addition to this job, he started his studies at Anton de Kom University (Suriname) in 1982. After obtaining his law degree (Bachelor), he left for the Netherlands in 1988 to continue his studies and there he studied tax law at the University of Groningen. In 1993 he obtained his university master’s degree and accepted a job as an inspector with the Dutch tax authorities. In the position of Profit Inspector, he was responsible for the taxation of companies, mainly medium and large companies and was also Fraud and Penalty Coordinator at the tax unit where he worked. In this position he developed a policy with regard to fraud prevention, the application of formal tax law and the fine policy. In 1998 Ismaël also successfully studied criminal law at the University of Amsterdam. In 2001 Ismaël decided to exchange the Netherlands for his native country Suriname. He then joined the Accountants-Tax Advice Firm Ernst & Young Suriname. Here he was mainly charged with the tax advice and guidance of large companies that are active in various sectors in Suriname. In 2004 he was appointed partner at this firm. In 2006 he accepted a position as financial director (CFO) at a large company in Suriname. He left this company in 2008 and started his consultancy GIDEON Advisory Services N.V. again. Ismaël is also active in the social field. Ismaël has taken up a new challenge at the central government - also in the field of taxes - as of August 1, 2020 and, as the founder of GIDEON, has temporarily left the office. However, he has left behind his knowledge and other qualities more than enough, so that you can rely on the same quality of services.
